How To Change Motor Oil

Changing the motor oil regularly is an important task to maintain your engine's good performance. Most mechanics would say that majority of car problems could be avoided if the car owners only changed their motor oil on a regular basis. It is recommended that you change your engine oil every 3000 miles or at least once a year. Even if your engine manual allows for a longer interval between oil changes, changing the oil more often will extend the life span of the engine. Dirty oil sitting idle becomes destructive to the internal surfaces of the engine. The process of changing oil only takes a few minutes. Here are the steps to guide you in changing your motor oil.

1. Begin by driving your car for about 15 minutes to warn the oil. By doing so, you can easily drain the oil contaminants out.

2. Check your car owner's manual. This will tell you how much and what kind of oil is required.

3. Locate your oil pan plug to drain the oil. You can use funnel and container to catch and let the old oil drain.

4. Change the oil filter and remove the old filter. Just be careful for it can be be messy.

5. Once you’ve drained out all the oil, put the plug back in and install the new oil filter. Make sure that you use the right filter for your vehicle.

6. Pour the fresh oil, pop up the hood and locate the dipstick. You can use funnel to make it simple to pour the oil into the filler opening on top of the engine.

7. Finally, clean the oil cap and put it back in place. Let it settle for a couple minutes before you start up your engine. Give the oil a chance to make its way from the engine down to the oil pan.
